Term long assignment for Supersized. These are "artifacts" from a hunting accident. My first attempt at sewing. It is all felt except for the blood, which is satin.

Dr. Henry Antoine Des Voeux

A piece for Think Green Zine about smog. Started out being a portrait of Dr. Henry Antoine Des Voeux who coined the term smog (smoke+fog) in 1905. Just ended up being a random person engulfed in smog. I still like to think of it being good ole' Henry.

This is a 4'x9' painting that I did in Media Experimentation. It is a painting of Tiresias
from Greek Mythology. I made three 36"x48" wood panels with my dad. This painting was a huge challenge but pretty fun as well. And it is unfortunately still unfinished. I want to add some snakes and maybe some more faces. Well see.....

Below are some shots of me trying to "freestyle" the face. No reference so it took quite a few tries to get a face and expression that I was happy with.

This is a little sculpture I did in Drawing Concepts 2. It is really fun playing with sculpey trying to emulate some of my drawings 3-dimensionally. I'm still not finished with the painting yet though. More detail!

(the sketch)

This was a personal project for Drawing Concepts 2. There were a few ideas behind this one.

*I wanted to draw an animal
*I wanted the animal to be wrinkly
*It was going to be large
*I wanted it to look like the "god" of the animal
that I chose

I chose to do the drawing on 38x50" Lenox paper. I used FW Acrylic Ink for the entire thing.

Linework

Some washes for the shadows.

The Final. Pretty happy with it. It was a lot of work and I learned a lot about being patient!

Artist Edition: TIDE

This was an assignment for Drawing Concepts 2 with Rob Clayton. Our project was to create an artist edition of some sort. I chose TIDE. I liked the size of the large box of detergent, and I felt that TIDE is a fairly generic brand and it would be fun to retool it a little bit.

The linework. I was instructed to leave the logo the same for the brand's sake. So I kept the basic outline but added a lot of linework in the interior. I also put one of my superhero characters on the front of the box.

The digital file. Figuring out the measurements and layout of the box took a little bit of time.

I emptied the TIDE box and deconstructed it so that I could glue my printed version onto the existing box. I printed it semi-gloss so that it resembled the original packaging.

To make the product even more of an artist edition I thought that it would be cool to put one of my shirts in the box, so that when someone buys the "limited edition detergent" they get a T-shirt. So after I affixed my imagery to the box I glued in an extra piece of cardboard to make a compartment for the shirt.

The finished product. Overall a really fun assignment!

This was an assignment for my Drawing Concepts 2 class. We had to create something that interacts with the public in some way. I decided to do a drawing of one of the "superhero" guys that I have been doing recently.

This is the finished drawing, taken into Photoshop and Illustrator and blown up. I initially wanted him to be saying something but opted out to go for something more open ended. It might have been too open ended in the end.

I took the digital file to Kinkos and got it printed out 36"x90" which was awesome because it is super cheap and the blacks were really dark.

I took the printout home and mounted the 9 different parts on rag board and cut them out. I assembled the pieces on location (Raymond Ave. in Pasadena) and snapped some shots. Overall the experience was a good one even though I was nervous being so exposed while putting the piece up. Enjoy!

Here are some process shots from my Media Experimentation class. The Clayton Bros. did a gouache demo and we had to practice that technique for homework. This technique is called a "gouache wash off."

Process Shots: Cerberus

The initial sketch on an 8x10" piece of paper. I scanned the sketch and blew it up to fit comfortably on a 17x23" piece of paper and printed it out on regular printer paper.

The next step was using my "lightbox" (an 18x24" frame without the backing and a strong light on the floor) to transfer it to Cream Rives BFK. I used FW Acrylic Inks for the entire piece.
